LA’s  Turkish community is on the streets for the fourth time, demanding justice.
Why do we keep gathering every week?
How long will this democracy vigil continue?
Since İmamoğlu’s trial has been postponed to June 16, it means our democracy vigil will continue for at least two more months. This process began on March 18 with the unlawful arrest of a presidential candidate with a very high chance of winning—solely to block his path.
But the issue has long since moved beyond him. We—whose bodies are here but whose hearts beat in Turkey—are not only here for Ekrem İmamoğlu. We are here to support those who take to the streets against the weaponization of the judiciary, the normalization of injustice, and the hijacking of Turkey’s future.
This is no longer a protest for a single person.
This is a long-term struggle against a systematic erosion of justice.
Today in Turkey:
• Journalists are punished for what they write,
• Young people for marching,
• People for not shopping,
• Or simply for expressing an opinion.
And now, we find ourselves relieved when just one of them is released. Because we are living in a regime where they “show us death, so we settle for malaria.”
The judiciary twists words to fabricate crimes. If someone calls you “idiot” and you reply in kind, that alone can be a reason for prosecution.
No one knows anymore what is or isn’t a crime. This arbitrariness destroys not just lives, but the economy. It’s not a one-day boycott that sinks a country—it’s this lawlessness.
Over 20 companies have been handed to government-appointed trustees with no judicial oversight. Investors have no guarantee that their assets won’t be seized tomorrow. This system doesn’t just suppress the opposition—it mortgages the country’s entire future.
That’s why we’re here.
Because we are building the future now. In these streets, on these banners, in this solidarity—lay the foundations of tomorrow’s democracy in Turkey.
Why are we here on this sunny Saturday?
Because we know it was public resistance that:
– Freed the detained youth,
– Got Mahir Polat out of house arrest,
– Prevented journalists from remaining behind bars,
– And perhaps even kept the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality from being seized by a trustee.
We don’t hold legal power. But we have conscience. We have solidarity. We have deterrence. That’s why we’re on the streets for the fourth time.
We will continue to stand with anyone in Turkey who demands justice. The future will be built with us.
See us. Hear us. Take note.

Neden her hafta yeniden bir araya geliyoruz?
Bu demokrasi nöbeti daha ne kadar sürecek?
İmamoğlu’nun duruşması 16 Haziran’a ertelendiğine göre, bizim de demokrasi nöbetimiz en az iki ay daha sürecek demektir. Bu süreç, 18 Mart’ta, seçilme ihtimali çok yüksek bir cumhurbaşkanı adayının önünü kesmek için hukuksuzca tutuklanmasıyla başladı.
Ama mesele çoktan onun ötesine geçti.
Bedeni burada ama kalbi Türkiye’de atan bizler, yalnızca Ekrem İmamoğlu için değil; yargının bir silaha dönüşmesine, hukuksuzluğun olağanlaşmasına ve Türkiye’nin geleceğine el konulmasına karşı sokağa çıkan halka destek olmak için buradayız.
Bu artık sadece bir kişi için yapılan bir protesto değil. Bu, sistemli bir adaletsizliğe karşı verilen uzun soluklu bir mücadele.
Bugün Türkiye’de:
• Gazeteciler yazdıkları için,
• Gençler yürüdükleri için,
• Halk alışveriş yapmadığı için,
• Veya düşüncesini ifade ettiği için — bazen de gözünün üstünde kaşın olduğu için — cezalandırılıyor.
Ve biz, içlerinden biri tahliye edilince sevinir hâle geldik.
Çünkü artık “ölümü gösterip sıtmaya razı etme” rejiminde yaşıyoruz.
Yargı, insanların sözlerini eğip bükerek “olmayan suçlar” yaratıyor.
Biri size “ahmak” derse ve siz o lafı iade ederseniz, artık bu bile ceza sebebi sayılabiliyor.
Bugün Türkiye’de neyin suç olup neyin olmayacağı öngörülemez hale geldi.
Bu keyfilik yalnızca insan hayatlarını değil, ülkenin ekonomisini de çökertiyor.
Türkiye’yi bir günlük boykot değil, işte bu keyfilik batırıyor.
20’den fazla şirkete, hiçbir yargı denetimi olmadan kayyum atanıyor.
Yatırımcı, ertesi gün malına el konulmayacağının garantisini alamıyor.
Bu düzen yalnızca muhalifleri değil, ülkenin geleceğini de ipotek altına alıyor.
Bu yüzden buradayız.
Çünkü geleceği şimdi inşa ediyoruz.
Bu sokaklarda, bu pankartlarda, bu dayanışmada, Türkiye’nin gelecekteki demokrasisinin temelleri atılıyor.
Bu güneşli cumartesi günü neden buradayız?
Çünkü biliyoruz ki halk sokağa çıktığı için:
– O gençler serbest kaldı.
– Mahir Polat bu sayede ev hapsine alındı.
– Gazeteciler kamuoyu baskısıyla içeride kalmadı.
– Ve belki de bu yüzden İBB’ye hâlâ kayyum atanmadı.
Elimizde yasa gücü yok.
Ama bizde vicdan var.
Dayanışma var.
Caydırıcılık var.
Bu yüzden 4. kez sokaktayız.
Çünkü Türkiye’de adalet isteyen herkesin yanında olmaya devam edeceğiz.
