Ongoing Support Rally for Ekrem İmamoğlu in Los Angeles
Last week, the Turkish community in Los Angeles came together to protest the unlawful treatment of Istanbul Metropolitan Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu. This week, we are gathered once again—at the same location, at the same time.

This peaceful demonstration is a call of solidarity reaching across the ocean, in support of the millions in Turkey who have taken to the streets to demand justice as the rule of law continues to erode. From here, we raise our voices with theirs—for democracy, rights, and accountability.
In Turkey, a climate of fear and confusion is deepening, fueled by an ever-shifting political agenda, arbitrary decisions, and disinformation. The rule of law is being replaced by political calculation, and transparency has given way to opacity. In this environment, Ekrem İmamoğlu—a mayor elected three times by the people, and a presidential contender—was unjustly detained and then arrested. Now, the government is openly considering appointing a trustee to take over the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality.

But the public did not stay silent. Following İmamoğlu’s arrest, millions of citizens turned out—voluntarily and without obligation—to vote in a symbolic primary. People from all walks of life, not just CHP supporters, cast their votes to express their outrage at injustice and their support for İmamoğlu’s candidacy. This was a clear and powerful expression of the people’s conscience and democratic will.
What is happening today is not only an injustice toward İmamoğlu, but part of a broader and systematic crackdown on anyone who dares to speak out. When the law is used as a weapon of vengeance, trust between citizen and state collapses. As the old saying goes: “Justice is the foundation of the state.”

Without justice, the economy cannot survive—and it hasn’t. This collapse affects not only political dissidents, but the entire society. Young people are now marching in the streets declaring, “We have nothing left to lose, so we are no longer afraid.” Even children chanting “Everything will be beautiful” (the mayor’s slogan) have been arrested.
That is precisely why we are here. From Los Angeles, we say once more: this is not just about Turkey—it is about our shared future. Let us come together to defend democracy, the rule of law, and the will of the people.

Los Angeles’ta Ekrem İmamoğlu’na Destek Eylemi Sürüyor

Geçtiğimiz hafta İstanbul Büyükşehir Belediye Başkanı Ekrem İmamoğlu’na yönelik hukuksuzlukları protesto etmek üzere bir araya gelen Los Angeles’taki Türk toplumu, bu hafta aynı yer ve saatte bir kez daha buluştu..

Bu barışçıl eylem, Türkiye’de adaletin giderek aşındığı bir dönemde, sesini duyurmak için sokağa çıkan milyonlarca yurttaşa buradan uzanan bir dayanışma çağrısıdır. Bizler de hukuk, adalet ve demokrasi taleplerine dünyanın bu ucundan destek veriyor, bu talepleri birlikte ve yüksek sesle dile getiriyoruz.

Türkiye’de neredeyse her dakika değişen gündem, keyfi kararlar ve bilgi kirliliğiyle şekillenen baskıcı bir ortam yaratılmış durumda. Hukukun üstünlüğü yerini siyasi hesaplara, şeffaflık ise belirsizliğe bırakıyor. Bu süreçte, halkın iradesiyle üç kez seçilmiş bir belediye başkanı ve cumhurbaşkanı adayı olan Ekrem İmamoğlu, hukuksuz bir şekilde gözaltına alındı ve ardından tutuklandı. Şimdi ise İstanbul Büyükşehir Belediyesi’ne kayyum atanması açıkça konuşuluyor.

Ancak halk sessiz kalmadı. İmamoğlu’nun tutuklanmasının hemen ardından, tamamen gönüllülüğe dayanan ve hiçbir zorunluluğu olmayan bir önseçimde milyonlarca yurttaş sandığa gitti. Sadece CHP seçmeni değil; adaletsizliğe itiraz eden toplumun her kesiminden on milyonlarca insan, sembolik de olsa, İmamoğlu’nun cumhurbaşkanlığı adaylığına desteğini oy vererek ilan etti. Bu, halkın vicdanının ve kolektif iradesinin açık bir ifadesidir.

Bugün yaşananlar yalnızca İmamoğlu’na yönelik bir haksızlık değil; düşüncesini ifade eden herkese yönelen sistematik bir baskının parçasıdır. Hukukun bir intikam aracına dönüşmesi, devletle yurttaş arasındaki güveni temelden sarsmaktadır. Nitekim “Adalet mülkün temelidir.”
Adaletin olmadığı yerde ekonomi de ayakta kalamaz. Nitekim kalamamıştır. Bu çöküş, yalnızca muhalifleri değil, toplumun tamamını etkileyen bir yıkım yaratmaktadır. Gençler artık “Kaybedecek bir şeyimiz kalmadı, o yüzden korkumuz da yok” diyerek kendilerini cesaretle sokaklara atıyor. “Her şey çok güzel olacak” diyen çocuklar dahi tutuklanıyor.

İşte tam da bu yüzden buradayız. Los Angeles’tan bir kez daha sesleniyoruz: Bu yalnızca Türkiye’nin değil, ortak geleceğimizin meselesidir. Gelin, hep birlikte halk iradesine, hukuka ve demokrasiye sahip çıkalım.
